Q. What is the origin of cufflinks?

A. Cufflinks appeared in the 1600’s but didn’t become common until the late 18th century. Their development is closely associated with that of the man’s shirt. During this time cufflinks became fashion accessories and one of the few acceptable items of jewellery for men. The 1960’s brought a more casual attitude and dressing style, dominated by mass production, and shirts were supplied with buttons. Slowly but surely, cufflinks started making a come back since the 1980’s, and with the current boom in tailor made apparel for man, cufflinks will again become an essential accessory for the cosmopolitan man.
